A few handy items can make meal preparation much easier and save extra trips to the shops.

Fridge basics

  • butter/margarine
  • milk
  • cheese – parmesan and tasty/cheddar
  • eggs
  • mayonnaise
  • yogurt
  • sauces – tomato, sweet chilli.

Freezer basics

  • frozen vegetables
  • mixed berries
  • ready-to-bake bread
  • spare loaf of bread or bread rolls
  • puff and short crust pastry
  • pizza bases
  • meat, including fish and chicken.

Cupboard basics

  • oils, including vegetable and olive
  • vinegars, including white, red wine and balsamic
