Plan a healthy diet

Overview
Healthy eating pyramid

Nutrition Australia’s Healthy Eating pyramid shows how easy it is to have a healthy diet.

Plan for a healthy, varied and balanced diet.

A healthy diet includes a wide variety of foods from all of the five food groups:

  • breads, cereals, rice and pasta
  • vegetables
  • fruits
  • milk, cheese and yoghurt
  • meat, fish, poultry, eggs and nuts.

Choose more fruit and vegetables and less meat for your menu plan. Meat is almost always more expensive per kilogram than fruit and vegetables, and it takes much more water to produce.

Download the Australian Dietary Guidelines for advice and inspiration about healthy eating, including what to eat and how much you need to eat.
