Inaugural partner list

Woolworths Ltd

Woolworths is a major food and grocery retailer in NSW and is committed to being recognised as a leader in sustainable retailing and caring for the environment. In November 2007, Woolworths committed to achieving zero food waste from its stores by 2015 and it has implemented several waste reduction programs to achieve this target.

In January 2010, Woolworths supermarkets launched Fresh Food Rescue, a year long campaign to rescue a record amount of surplus food from the waste stream and turn it into meals for the needy. Already one of the largest food donors in Australia, Fresh Food Rescue has a target of providing two million meals for those in need and $2 million for the infrastructural needs of those who serve them.

Woolworths Limited is pleased to be an inaugural partner of the Love Food Hate Waste program and will promote the program to it's customers to help reduce food waste within households.

Australian Food and Grocery Council

The Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) is the national body representing the nation's food and grocery products manufacturers. The food and grocery products industry is Australia's largest manufacturing sector, employing more than 315,000 Australians and contributing around 4 per cent to gross domestic product.

AFGC is committed to working with its members to improve sustainability in the food manufacturing sector and to reduce their impact on the environment. AFGC is pleased to be a Love Food Hate Waste partner and will work with its members to support the campaign's principles and reduce food waste across their own operations. AFGC will also seek to:

  • influence community awareness and attitudes in relation to food waste
  • maximise knowledge and support for initiatives that make the promoted behaviours more desirable and easier to adopt
  • motivate people to change by promoting the benefits, building skills to confidently make this change, and to emphasise that the benefits of changing outweigh the effort to do so
  • reinforce and encourage new behaviours over a sustained period, and ensure ongoing behaviours are supported by commitments, prompts and signals to reinforce changes.

Local Government and Shires Associations of NSW

The Local Government and Shires Associations of NSW (LGSA) are a representative / advocacy organisation for all local councils in NSW. The Associations have a strong commitment to improving the environmental sustainability of local government, through funded programs including the Urban Sustainability Support Alliance, the Sustainable Choice (procurement) Program and the Climate Change adaptation and training programs.

Waste reduction and resource recovery are also priority issues for the Associations and their member councils. There is a recognition that food waste currently makes up a significant proportion of the total volume and weight of the waste stream, and there are great opportunities to address this issue through the avoidance of the creation of food waste, and the diversion of food waste to become a valuable resource. LGSA is pleased to be a Love Food Hate Waste partner and will work to assist councils promote awareness and actions in the community to reduce food waste.
