Save it from landfill

Kitchen scraps for composting

Composting kitchen scraps can save a significant amount of waste from landfill.

There will be times when we have food waste at home – be it ‘unavoidable’ food waste like vegetable peelings or ‘avoidable’ waste like leftovers that just didn’t get eaten.

Studies in the UK by WRAP suggest that up to 40 per cent of all household food waste is potentially ‘unavoidable’.

You have choices on where to put this food. Putting food scraps in the bin ends up in landfill. Why not set up a home compost bin or worm farm? Depending on the food scraps you have left over you may even be able to feed it to your pets – be it the dog or the chickens.

Composting and worm farming are two easy ways to prevent food waste going to landfill. Whether you live in an apartment, townhouse or a house, a compost bin or worm farm will help you to keep food waste out of landfill and reduce our environmental impact.
