Composting kitchen scraps can save a significant amount of waste from landfill.
Composting is great for your garden and our environment. It is a process that converts organic matter like food waste into materials that plants love. By composting food waste like vegetable peelings or leftovers, you will be keeping them out of the bin, and out of landfill.
Turn your food scraps and garden vegetation into compost to:
- improve soil quality and garden vitality using your own compost
- conserve water, as healthy soil needs less water, and reduce water bills
- recycle valuable nutrients and save on fertiliser costs
- prevent greenhouse gas emissions and landfill impacts from wasted food and garden vegetation.
Your compost can be used as:
- soil conditioner
- a seed raising mix
- a slow release organic fertiliser mulch.
Many local councils sell compost bins. You can also visit your local nursery or hardware store. There are different kinds of bins to choose from so make sure you buy one that suits the space you have available.
