#Shortcuts

February is the shortest month of the year but tends to be a very busy one, with most of us back at work and school. So, given that we might be feeling a little more pressurised and time poor than last month, we’re here to help with some food-loving #Shortcuts!

Food is an important focus in my family and making sure we keep it out of the bin is something we take pride in. But we all need reminders as well as information on new tips and tricks to keep us on track. To lighten the load, this month our #Shortcuts theme will provide you with a variety of simple ways to save time, money and food.

I think we can probably all admit to overcooking or overordering at some point but don’t worry, we’ve got lots of ideas on what to do with leftovers. We’ll also show you how to use up the tomatoes at the bottom of your fridge on Homemade Soup Day by turning them into a restaurant-style gazpacho – perfect on a hot and humid day.

Did you know that pancakes were traditionally created to use up leftover staples such as butter and milk to stop them going off? We’ll give you some ideas of other ingredients you can use up on Pancake Day to make delicious treats. You’ll also find out ways to preserve your produce by freezing it and we’ll give you some ‘dating ‘advice on Valentine’s Day – what’s not to love!

And lastly, I’d like to share my own personal #Shortcut. I love surprising friends with my very simple but very effective ‘vegetable resurrection’ hack – which involves putting my favourite veggies in icy cold water and returning them to the fridge for an hour……. crisp, crunchy vegetables in a flash and it works for a wide range of produce such as radishes, celery, carrots, asparagus and green beans.

Remember that we love to hear from you too so don’t forget to provide us and the rest of our community with your own go-to tips and tricks or feel free to ask us any questions you might have.

Have a (waste-free) feast this February!
