Woman taking food from fridge

#FoodSmart

Calling all NSW waste warriors, let’s be Food Smart!

With the festive season beckoning, I’m daydreaming about the summer months surrounded by my nearest and dearest, and feasting on flavoursome home-grown fare that this beautiful country is renowned for.

For most people food tends to be in abundance during the Christmas and New Year period, particularly for those like me who love to play host or enjoy being someone else’s guest. As we start to make plans in anticipation, it’s a great opportunity to think about the role that food plays in our celebrations and set positive intentions to champion our fresh produce and reduce the amount of food we throw away.

Inspired by the launch of our state-wide educational program, Food Smart, this month we will be focusing on positive food waste avoidance behaviours. Throughout the month we will guide you through six steps (as outlined in the program) that will see you get to know your food waste better - the amount of food you throw away and the most commonly wasted food items – and teach you simple hacks that use up every part of your produce, to show you just how much money and time you can save when being smart about food. Oh, and let’s not forget the environmental benefits!

Come and join us on this exciting journey! We will be inviting you to share your progress with us throughout the month. Not only this, we will be celebrating National Recycling Week 2020 and sharing some tasty zero-waste recipe suggestions that are both quick and easy to make.
