Make the most out of the food you buy

Supply chain impacts in recent months have seen prices rise at the checkout making it more important than ever to make the most of every morsel of food we purchase.

2 March 2022

Research shows the average person wastes nearly $1,000 a year on the food but doesn’t eat it. That’s billions of dollars worth of good food thrown in the bin every year! Imagine what else we could spend that money on. A holiday, dinner out every week, new clothes?

So, instead of throwing away cash, this month we’re going to show you our best cost-conscious recipes that will wow your family and please your pocket. Our budget-busting tips and food hacks will reduce your foodprint, help you eat well, and save you lots of money.

Top #BudgetBuster tips:

  1. Buy seasonal produce – it is cheaper and supports local growers
  2. Store your food correctly, so it doesn’t spoil and have to be thrown out
  3. Use it all up – bake a whole cauliflower (stem, leaves and all) or plan two meals in a row that use the same ingredients.

We’ll also be offering prizes for your best seasonal go-to food, focusing on affordability and versatility. Head to our Facebook or Instagram pages and share your go-to recipes in the comments in the competition posts. You could win one of our food saving prize packs comprising of food huggers, bag clips and reusable veggie bags.

Plus, this month includes Food Waste Action Week, which we’re celebrating with our partners at Love Food Hate Waste UK to highlight the global impacts of food waste.

So, if saving food saves money, helps the environment and allows us to make the most out of every ingredient we use in our recipes, why wouldn’t we all want to be food waste champions?

Happy budget-busting.
